At Frederick Western and Sommer sign’s in Tulsa where I work for the summer the owner and an old timer would do a lot of hand painted signs. When i asked if he could teach me how, the owner handed me a no.1 Mack pin striping brush and a gallon of paint and said “As soon as you use (by way of lettering) every drop of paint in this bucket with this brush, I will teach you how to paint a sign.”
Interesting video. Faythe Levine (handmade nation) is currently working on a documentary about sign painters as well. Her blog about it has really sparked my interest in the subject. http://signpaintermovie.blogspot.com/
